There are a thousand and one paths that lead to Santiago de Compostela, but few are as exciting as the one that runs by sea and enters the ría de Muros Noia, the last of the Rías Baixas, recalling the same journey followed by thousands of pilgrims since the times of the Second Crusade. Do you want to take this sea route in a group on board a sailboat? It will be an unforgettable experience! This nautical journey is recognised by the pilgrim’s office and it is enough to complete 90 nautical miles by sailboat, stamp the pilgrim’s credential in the ports marked by the route and walk at least the last 12 kilometres from the town of Bertamiráns until reaching Santiago de Compostela.

The experience

The experience:

Julio Verne Náutica is a certified academy specialized in both theoretical and practical
recreational sailing training. Located at the iconic Monte Real Club de Yates in Baiona, in the heart of the Rías Baixas,
we are also an official RYA Training Centre. We have our own fleet of boats, available for charter with or without a skipper, and we
operate year-round. We offer guided routes, provide boat transport by sea, and above all, share our passion for
the ocean with every student and client.

The Camino de Santiago by sailboat from Baiona
A unique and different way to complete the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela: by
sailing. Departing from the Monte Real Club de Yates in Baiona, this nautical journey allows you to
complete the Camino de Santiago following the Ruta Marítima Xacobea, sailing through
some of the most beautiful and iconic landscapes of the Rías Baixas.

For five days, you’ll live an unforgettable experience:

  • 4 days of sailing through the Rías of Vigo, Pontevedra, and Arousa, with 4 nights onboard a sailboat.
  • 1 day of river navigation up the Ulla River on a motorboat.
  • The final 7 km on foot from Milladoiro to the Cathedral of Santiago, following the Portuguese Way.

Along the route, pilgrim credentials are stamped at the designated ports (minimum two per day), and upon completion, participants receive La Compostela, the official pilgrim certificate.

A blend of adventure, history, and spirituality—where the sea becomes the path.

The historic Camino of the Ría de Muros Noia was officially recognized by the Church on December 20, 2020.

Our itinerary from Vigo crosses all the Rías Baixas and guarantees a minimum of 90 nautical miles sailed to the port of Portosín–Noia.

The Julio Verne team accompanies our sailor-pilgrims by car to Bertamiráns.

At check-in, we provide pilgrims with their official credential. In addition, our team will make sure to remind you to get your credential stamped at each port where we stop.

Earn your Compostela with Julio Verne

The Compostela is the main certificate of recognition granted by the Church to those who complete the Camino de Santiago, meeting a series of minimum requirements. For maritime pilgrimages, these four conditions apply:

  • Complete the journey under sail, emulating the historic maritime pilgrimages.
  • Follow one of the historic routes officially recognized by the Church.
  • Cover a minimum of 90 nautical miles.
  • Walk the final kilometers leading into Santiago on foot.

To verify these requirements, pilgrims carry the pilgrim credential—a kind of passport in which they record their journey by collecting stamps at least twice per day (at the start and end of each stage). To validate passage through a town, a stamp from any establishment, institution, or church along the route is considered valid.
