The Experience

The Rías Baixas Route – Camino Maritimo de Santiago ría de Muros Noia is a group sailing experience of up to 30 boats in which safety, companionship and camaraderie between crew members are paramount. In each edition, the safest and most spectacular ports and sailing locations in the Rías Baixas are chosen, covering the minimum of 90 nautical miles required by the church to recognize a maritime pilgrimage before heading to Santiago de Compostela through the Camino de la ría de Muros Noia. The Rías Baixas Route – Camino Marítimo de Santiago itself organises private events and tastings for the crew, so each edition is also a fun and gastronomic experience.

All this with the added bonus of following in the footsteps of great navigators who, since the 12th century, followed this pilgrimage route to reach the only officially recognised Portus Apostoli in history (Noia) and then to Compostela.

This Experience is one of the few that allows the navigator to obtain the status of pilgrim, starting from a port in Galicia. Remember that to be a true nautical pilgrim, four requirements must be met:

Sail, emulating historical maritime pilgrimages.
Do it following one of the historical itineraries recognised by the Church. The Camino de la ría de Muros Noia obtained such recognition on 20 December 2020
Travel a minimum of 90 nautical miles. Our route is well over 100.
Walk the last few kilometres of the entrance to Santiago. We suggest you walk the last 12 kilometres of the historic route of the Camino de la ría de Muros Noia from Bertamiráns to Santiago.

An event resulting from collaboration

The 2025 edition of the Rías Baixas Route – Santiago Ría de Muros Noia is the result of collaboration between the organising Clubs: Monterreal Club de Yates de Baiona and Real Club Náutico de Portosín with the ría de Muros Noia Destination, in addition to the different marinas, ports and municipalities through which the route runs.

It aims to be one more of the different routes that make up the Camino de Santiago with the peculiarity of being a pilgrimage by sea crossing one of the most beautiful landscapes of Galicia in an atmosphere of companionship and camaraderie.

Logistics and safety

Our fleet, of up to a maximum of 30 units, carries three follow-up boats and a support van on land.

The organisation team takes care of safety during all the crossings, bringing all participants together in morning briefings with the entire fleet to review the itinerary and organisation in the ports both at the departure and arrival of the boats.

The stages are designed to enjoy sailing and the unbeatable landscapes of the Rías Baixas, they have an average length of 25 miles, with intermediate stops for lunch and an average speed of 5 knots is estimated for arrivals at the next port.

Departure port

The Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona will be in charge of opening the Camino Marítimo de Santiago – Ruta Rías Baixas Route in its fifth edition as the departure port, facilitating the arrival of the boats in the previous days and organising the accompaniment from the start of the route for all participants.

First stage June 30th.

Baiona – Islas Cíes – Aldán – Combarro.

Second stage July 1st.

Combarro – Isla de Ons – Portonovo.

Third stage July 2nd.

Portonovo – Ría de Arousa – A Pobra do Caramiñal.

Fourth stage July 3rd.

A Pobra do Caramiñal – San Francisco – Muros.

Fifth stage July 4th.

Muros – Meixidos – Bruios – Creba – Portosín.

Sixth stage July 5th.

Portosín – Santiago de Compostela.

The payment for registration on the Rías Baixas Route – Camino Maritimo de Santiago includes:

The meals and banquets included in the program.
Attendance at all recreational events and concerts scheduled in the program.
Mooring in all nautical and marinas.
The assistance of the organisation’s boats and crews.
Obtaining navigation permits in the waters of the Illas Atlánticas National Park
The shuttle bus service to Santiago de Compostela
The accompanying guide service during the sixth day (pilgrimage to Compostela)
Pilgrim’s credential
Processing of the Compostela for the crew members who complete the pilgrimage to Compostela.

Rates

Registration fee of €300 per boat,
includes 3 crew members.
The cost of each additional crew member is €60.

Other information of interest

It is essential that each skipper has the appropriate qualification for the type of boat.
Valid boat insurance.
The registered boats will have to directly obtain the anchoring permit in the Ons Island by 2 July.
Formalise the registration with all the crew members of the boat.
Crew members who complete the pilgrimage to Santiago must fill out a form before June 25 (at the Monterreal Club de Yates office or by requesting it by email).
The route is limited to 35 boats.
Boats that wish to extend their stay at the Real Club Náutico de Portosín must contact the organization.

Get the Compostela with us

The Compostela is the main diploma of recognition of the status of pilgrim that the Church grants to those who complete the Camino de Santiago by fulfilling a series of minimum conditions. For maritime pilgrimages there are four:

Sailing, emulating historical maritime pilgrimages.
Doing it following one of the historical itineraries recognized by the Church.
Traveling a minimum of 90 nautical miles.
Walking the last kilometers of the entrance to Santiago.

To meet these requirements, the pilgrim makes his journey with the pilgrim’s credential, a passport in which he records at least twice a day (beginning and end of the day) his passage through the different towns along the Camino. To prove passage through a town, the stamp of any establishment, institution or church on the itinerary is valid.
