There are a thousand and one paths that lead to Santiago de Compostela, but few are as exciting as the one that runs by sea and enters the ría de Muros Noia, the last of the Rías Baixas, recalling the same journey followed by thousands of pilgrims since the times of the Second Crusade. Do you want to take this sea route in a group on board a sailboat? It will be an unforgettable experience! This nautical journey is recognised by the pilgrim’s office and it is enough to complete 90 nautical miles by sailboat, stamp the pilgrim’s credential in the ports marked by the route and walk at least the last 12 kilometres from the town of Bertamiráns until reaching Santiago de Compostela.

The experience

The experience

Julio Verne Náutica, located in the iconic Monte Real Club de Yates of Baiona in the heart of the Rías Baixas, is an officially certified nautical academy and RYA Training Center, specialized in recreational maritime training.
We operate year-round, offering the full Camino de Santiago marítimo experience with our own fleet of sailboats, available with or without skipper. We also provide guided nautical routes, boat transfers by sea, and — above all — we share our passion for sailing and the historic Ría de Muros Noia with every student and client.

Camino de Santiago marítimo from Baiona along the Ría de Muros Noia by sailboat

Discover a distinctive way of reaching Santiago de Compostela: sailing along the Xacobean Sea Route.

Starting from the Monte Real Club de Yates in Baiona, this sailing journey takes pilgrims through the breathtaking landscapes of the Rías Baixas, combining the spiritual richness of the Camino de Santiago marítimo with the natural beauty of Galicia’s coast.

This journey is more than just a sailing trip — it’s a five-day immersive pilgrimage by sea:

  • 4 days of sailing through the Rías of Vigo, Pontevedra, and Arousa, with
  • 4 overnight stays aboard a sailboat
  • 1 day of river navigation along the Ulla River in a motorboat

The final stretch involves walking the last 7 km from Milladoiro to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, following the Portuguese Way, with official pilgrim credentials stamped at ports along the way (minimum two per day). On completing the full Camino de Santiago marítimo, pilgrims are awarded La Compostela, the official pilgrimage certificate.

This is an authentic blend of maritime adventure, history, and spirituality — a sailing Camino de Santiago where the sea becomes the path.

By choosing the Camino de Santiago marítimo through the Ría de Muros Noia, you’re stepping into a tradition deeply linked to European cultural and maritime heritage. This route echoes the historical voyages of figures like Pietro Querini, whose epic 15th-century journey along the Via Querinissima ties the northern and southern corners of Europe through shared memory, resilience, and seafaring culture.

Whether as a modern adventurer or a spiritual seeker, this route offers a powerful connection to history and to the living sea. Sail with purpose. Arrive transformed.

We sail on sailboats and catamarans.

Get the Compostela with Julio Verne

The Compostela is the main diploma of recognition of the status of pilgrim that the Church grants to those who complete the Camino de Santiago by fulfilling a series of minimum conditions. For maritime pilgrimages there are four:

  • Sailing, emulating the historical maritime pilgrimages.
  • Doing it following one of the historical itineraries recognized by the Church.
  • Traveling a minimum of 90 nautical miles.
  • Walking the last kilometers of the entrance to Santiago.

To prove these requirements, the pilgrim makes his trip with the pilgrim’s credential, a passport in which he records at least twice a day (start and end of the day) his passage through the different towns of the Camino. To prove the passage through a town, the stamp of any establishment, institution or church on the itinerary is valid.
