There are a thousand and one paths that lead to Santiago de Compostela, but few are as exciting as the one that runs by sea and enters the ría de Muros Noia, the last of the Rías Baixas, recalling the same journey followed by thousands of pilgrims since the times of the Second Crusade. Do you want to take this sea route in a group on board a sailboat? It will be an unforgettable experience! This nautical journey is recognised by the pilgrim’s office and it is enough to complete 90 nautical miles by sailboat, stamp the pilgrim’s credential in the ports marked by the route and walk at least the last 12 kilometres from the town of Bertamiráns until reaching Santiago de Compostela.

The experience

The experience

We offer you a 4-day experience: three days of sailing and accommodation on our sailboats and one day to do the 12 km walk from Bertamiráns to Santiago de Compostela and visit the cathedral and the tomb of the Apostle.

This Camino de Santiago by sea is a unique and different way of making a pilgrimage along a historic route that thousands of pilgrims have used since the 12th century.

The Camino through the Muros Noia Estuary with Sailway is the only one that will allow you to make the minimum 90 nautical miles required to obtain the Compostela through a safe and spectacular navigation area.

It is a unique route through the most emblematic natural sanctuaries, landscapes, ports and seafaring villages of Galicia: Baiona, Cíes Islands, Ons Islands, Combarro, Sanxenxo, Pobra do Caramiñal, Muros, Noia (Portus Apostoli), among many others.

In addition, we take care of the transport from the last point by boat to the first section on foot in Bertamiráns, from where you begin the last 12 km (2 hours) of the pilgrimage on foot to Compostela.

And the final reward: the entrance to the cathedral (next Holy Year 2027, through the Holy Door), the visit to the tomb of the apostle and the obtaining of the Compostela.

Sailway presents a new way to experience the Camino de Santiago marítimo through the Ría de Muros Noia, tailored for sea lovers and uninterrupted sailing enthusiasts. This sailing pilgrimage is perfect for those who want to feel the essence of the ancient pilgrim journey — as it was done centuries ago, by sea.

This express route sails directly from Baiona to Muros, crossing the waters of the Ría de Muros Noia in 8 to 12 hours, depending on wind and weather. It’s a nonstop sailing experience — no tourist stops or port layovers. The protagonists are the sea, the wind, and Galicia itself, seen from the deck of a sailboat.

Upon arrival, pilgrims can complete the Camino de Santiago marítimo experience by staying at Hotel Porto de Muros, a beautifully restored premium accommodation on the seafront. With views of the harbor and a setting rich in history, it’s the ideal place to connect with the spirit of the Camino de Santiago while enjoying modern comfort.

It’s the perfect ending to an intense sailing day: rest, silence, and the whisper of the Camino de Santiago marítimo as your soundtrack.

Get the Compostela with Sailway

The Compostela is the main diploma of recognition of the status of pilgrim that the Church grants to those who complete the Camino de Santiago by fulfilling a series of minimum conditions. For maritime pilgrimages there are four:

  • Sailing, emulating the historical maritime pilgrimages.
  • Doing it following one of the historical itineraries recognized by the Church.
  • Traveling a minimum of 90 nautical miles.
  • Walking the last kilometers of the entrance to Santiago.

To prove these requirements, the pilgrim makes his trip with the pilgrim’s credential, a passport in which he records at least twice a day (start and end of the day) his passage through the different towns of the Camino. To prove the passage through a town, the stamp of any establishment, institution or church on the itinerary is valid.
